David Sensei Practicing Iaido

David Rubin Sensei has been practicing and studying martial arts since 2001, beginning his journey in Tae Kwon Do and Hap Ki Do  in Los Angeles. During this time, he earned his Shodan (1st Dan) in Hap Ki Do, laying a strong foundation for his continued martial arts development.

David is a dedicated long-time student of Dov Sensei, having been promoted to the rank of Yondon 四段 Shidōin 指導員 (4th Dan) and appointed as Head Sensei of the School of Sword and Staff in January 2024. Under Dov Sensei’s guidance, David has studied a diverse array of martial arts, including Bojutsu, Naginatajutsu, Iaido (the art of drawing the sword), Tameshigiri, Sport Combat, and Aikijutsu. His extensive training and leadership continue to enrich the community at the School of Sword and Staff.

David has studied the Bahala Na Style of Filipino Martial Arts in Monterey Bay with Guro David Hines, Guro Sherwin Fernandez and Guro Erickson Osian from 2018 to 2023. This training has further enriched his martial arts repertoire, complementing his extensive background and enhancing his teaching at the School of Sword and Staff.
